“…Capitalism is the astounding belief that the most wicked of men will do the wickedist of things for the greatest good of everyone.” John Maynard Keynes.
Our government and some of the rest of the world have decided separately to include some mitigation and some adaptation toward dealing with global climate change caused by a growing buildup of greenhouse gases, such as CO2 and methane. At the same time companies continue the extraction of these products in the process of producing oil, especially in places like the oil sands of Canada. Some politicians and CEOs are united against the effort to stop climate change, believing that the climate change threat doesn’t exist. But the bottom line is just that. Money talks. And it’s apparent that no significant action will be taken. Indeed, we can expect greenhouse gases to continue to climb above the danger point, with all of its consequences.
President Obama, while declaring that he will pursue this dual track for now, is just one of many world leaders who are walking around without any comprehensive grand plan for a complex and massive undertaking. Their lack of efforts will amount to a quicker time line for catastrophic events, very likely before 2050. Obama is in reality doing nothing to even slow down global warming. And Romney is ready to dig up every drop of oil we can find while the earth burns. It’s good for business, don’t you know.
Scientists expect these gases to increase as we approach 2030, a date when a shortage of resources, including oil, water and food, will cause a global problem that will be exacerbated by the disasters that climate change will bring. And the next 20 years to 2050 are expected to bring more problems with a population of over 9 billion people, well beyond the earth’s capacity to sustain them.
We can expect more damaging weather such as droughts, rising temperatures, large deluges of water, washing away soil and leaving the ground dry.
And as the arctic ice continues to melt, predictions are that the weather patterns will bring enhanced weather conditions to the seasons. The droughts will be harsh, lasting for long periods of time , causing crop failures and deaths from the heat and lack of water. This is already the case in a large part of the U.S., with forecasters predicting a drier, hotter climate for the U.S. through the rest of this century.
WHAT ABOUT AMERICAN WORKERS?
Our leaders have decided to contribute to the American workers’ demise for the sake of more corporate profits. We will have a glut of cheap, mobile, global labor. And more American workers and their families will wind up on welfare as the imminent threat to the world, global warming, is ignored by CEOs, and we rush toward our date with a planetary catastrophe.
In other words, our leaders have chosen to help the CEOs amass trillions of dollars, but not for investing for factories in America- at least not until North American labor mobility is put into place (pp. 27, 28). And when we have complete labor mobility for the continent, that labor, including professionals from Mexico, will inundate the United States, replacing American workers. Meanwhile American companies are still moving their factories south. Recent moves include Ford and Whirlpool opening factories in Mexico.
Americans will become permanently unemployed unless they decide to take cheaper wages, which is no guarantee they will get a job. Speaking Spanish might help. These unemployed Americans will also be there as a warning to Mexicans that they can be replaced. Over the last three years, American auto workers renegotiated their wages down from around $28 per hour to $14 to $15 per hour to work in German factories in Alabama and South Carolina. The Germans think of them as cheap labor.
The tragic part is that the next few decades to 2050 and beyond could be the most horrendous in the history of civilization, and no one except the politicians, the wealthy, and corporate CEOs will be in a reasonable situation for survival. Yes, the ones who brought us to this end game.
THE STATUS OF CLIMATE CHANGE IN A WARMING EARTH:
The Council on Foreign Relations even put out a brief on climate change, …”one of the most significant threats facing the world today.” July 5, 2012.
“According to the American Meteorological Society, there is a 90 percent probability that global temperatures will rise by 3.5 to 7.4 degrees Celsius (6.3 to 13.3 Fahrenheit) in less then one hundred years, with even greater increases over land and the poles. These seemingly minor shifts in temperature could trigger widespread disasters in the form of rising sea levels, violent and volatile weather patterns, desertification, famine, water shortages, and other secondary effects, including CONFLICT. In November 2011, the International Energy Agency warned that the world may be fast approaching a tipping point concerning climate change, and suggested that the next five years will be crucial for greenhouse gas reduction efforts.
The level of climate-warming gases in the atmosphere is climbing, with no end in sight and no unified effort to “mitigate” it.
June 1, 2012: “The world’s air has revealed what scientists call a troubling new milestone for carbon dioxide, the main global warming pollutant.
“Monitoring stations across the arctic this spring are measuring more than 400 parts per million of this heat-trapping gas in the atmosphere. The number isn’t quite a surprise, because it’s been rising at an accelerating pace. Years ago, it passed the 350 ppm mark that many scientists say is the highest safe level for carbon dioxide. It now stands globally at 395.
“So far, only the arctic has reached that 400 level, but the world will follow soon.”
A NOTICE CONCERNING THE PERFECT STORM DUE in 2030:
The Population Institute produced a Perfect Storm Scenario for the resource shortages expected in 2030. (see p.3)
The year is 2030 and the perfect storm has arrived:
“Efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions have fallen short of the pledges made in 2010. Climate change is more evident, and the concentration of greenhouse gas emissions is dangerously close to the 450 ppm level that could trigger the worst effects of climate change.”
(Notice that the scenario takes place in 2030 but it’s 2012 now and we are already at 400 ppm in the arctic and rapidly moving to 450 ppm and beyond, possibly between now and 2014 or sooner. And as noted by climate scientists that is the level “that could trigger the worst effects of climate change.”)
This means, of course, that we are already on the verge of catastrophic events never seen before and we are already 18 years ahead of that predicted time of reckoning. With the current world leaders doing nothing to “mitigate” a disaster that will persist for hundreds of years at a level beyond any scenarios that could be managed, the future looks quite dim. Click on image to enlarge.
Even if we were to stop adding greenhouse gases to the earth, the current level of gases would “continue to increase and remain elevated for hundreds of years.” And oceans absorb the emissions and can “continue to impact the climate over the next several decades to hundreds of years.”
The ocean, a source of food for a billion people, is predicted to be down to only 10 percent of its fisheries left by 2050 due to corporate fishing and the effects of ocean warming on coral reefs. With no remedies in sight and the end of life on the coral reefs a good bet, the oceans of our planet will be, essentially, a large pool of polluted water by 2050.
Alaska is already affected by a large jump in warming temperatures:
“Over the past 50 years, temperatures across Alaska increased by an average of 3.4 degrees F. Winter warming was even greater, rising by an average of 6.3F. The rate of warming in Alaska was twice the national average over that same period of time. Average rate of warming in Alaska was twice the average over that same period of time. Average annual temperatures in Alaska are projected to increase an additional 3.5 to 7 degrees F. by the middle of this century.” Read more. That is, once again, the year 2050, a date that will be very unpleasant for any living creature.
A BRIEF SCENARIO FOR THE BEGINNING OF THE END OF CIVILIZATION ON PLANET EARTH:
The year 2050 is significant since all of the pieces will be in play and globally things are falling apart-including globalization. It will be defined as a time of overpopulation with 9 billion people, shortages of water, food, oil, everything- including medicines. In addition, citizens of the former United States are under siege from a hostile Mexican population searching for relief and a large exodus moves eastward in the search for water, food and shelter. And the violence spirals out of control. This, in a time when climate change has caused massive disruptions globally and a move from regions either short of, or out of, water and food.
In addition, climate refugees from the Caribbean, Central and South America crash our porous border. The U.S. no longer exists, as desperate groups stake out areas to defend. And the rest of the world is not doing so good either. But it will get much worse, mainly because no one did a thing to stop it, starting when the governments of the world could have joined together to get population under control, perhaps a century ago. But all we got were the greedy and self-absorbed leaders. They maintained tunnel vision throughout the journey, with staying in power as their personal goal.
And after all the killing and crimes against humanity- and the lies, it’s finished. And there will be no order left in your New World Order.
My brief scenario is mild if you contemplate what is really possible. And now likely.
