Nice piece, I enjoyed it, you are a much better writer than I am. It would have taken me 5000 words to say what you did. I like your emphasis on experienced "beach walkists." Few today walk the beach more than a mile or so and so don't really understand how important it was.
Dade County Judge Nehemiah Crowell's "well" was just south of the Lake Worth inlet that Lang had opened at the black rocks, and wasn't used by the 1884-1892 carriers. They took to the beach at the "haulover" now the Boyton inlet, miles to the south of the pork barrel. There is an account by Dr. J.M. Hawks that describes Crowell's well, and it being used by the "mailcarrier" Mike Oxer, of Biscayne Bay. An aside, William Gleason was on that trip and he was the defacto mail "contractor" that had hired Mike. This group walked the mail from about 1868-1870 when the route was discontinued until December 18, 1884 when Charlie Coman took to the beach. Charlie Pierce got it wrong, E.R. Bradly was not the first of the 1880 group. May 23, 1885 Coman gave up the route to become Keeper of Ft. Lauderdale House of Refuge. It was not until July 17, 1885 that Edwin Bradley got the contract and began walking the mail.
The first efforts were brought about by Caleb Brayton who got Indian River and Miami post offices established February 18, 1850, so his hired mail carrier had places to go. His carrier quit after a year and Brayton, a consumptive, tried to use horses. I have a letter he wrote to Governor Brown complaining about it. I do not know how long this first "Starr Route" was in action, but it may have been around long enough to be the root of "Long John" Holman's story he carried the mail during the Third Seminole War. (Dr. Gilbert Voss had him walking it during the Civil War.. highly unlikely.)
It was this first group who were most likely to have spent the night in the "caves" at today's Briney Breeze Park. It was a long days walk..30 miles, from Jupiter where the mailcarrier took to the beach, to the caves. The route was not re-activated until Gleason went at it 1868.

I know a LOT about this subject and would be happy to share with you, gimmi a shout.

Yes, Mexicans will be putting a drain on our Social Security system as we integrate Canada, Mexico and the United States into a single entity, a North American Community. Bush tried in 2004 to get a Totalization of Social Security Agreement between the U.S. and Mexico but it was never implemented.

That would have made it a lot easier for Mexicans to be eligible to collect Social Security and survivor benefits for relatives in Mexico. That would have applied to between 10 and 20 million illegals in the U.S.

Bush, and now Obama, has to get 60 million more workers (Mexicans) to support the 78 million baby boomers who will be retiring over the next 4 decades.

Toward this end, Obama has announced the construction of a North American perimeter around the continent (Feb. 4, 2011). The agreement was with Prime Minister Harper of Canada. The United States has a similar agreement with Mexico. It's part of the Council on Foreign Relations plan for Building a North American Community. This is the official plan for integrating North America and an article, favorable to this economic and security community, can be found on the Bush Department of State website. The plan is also on Obama's State Department site but it has been blocked since I published it. (See below)

The target is open interior borders between Mexico and the U.S. and between between Canada and the U.S., allowing the free flow of commerce and people (Mexican labor) throughout the continent. This security perimeter was copied after the European Union's Schengen Agreement, in which those inside the perimeter can go anywhere in the EU without being stopped and asked for their ID. Over here, we would all be North American citizens, not just Americans.

We could potentially add most of the population of Mexico to America. There is your disaster in the making. We will be paying out many billions to Mexicans and their many dependents back in Mexico. Of course, fraud won't be a problem.

The plan for the Totalization of Social Security with Mexico can be found on p. 27 and labor mobility for North America on pp. 26,27,28. Barack Obama's North American perimeter, aka a common security perimeter, can be found on p. 8. on the road map, Building a North American Community. See below.

When this free flow of Mexicans becomes a reality, then we have a disaster.
